Ingrowing Toenails

This is a condition where a part of the nail has penetrated the skin and causes inflammation in the surrounding tissues.
The toe is often very painful and becomes red and swollen.
Any toenail may become affected, but more commonly appears on the big toe.
Ingrowing toenails occur more frequently in teenage boys.
What can cause an ingrowing toenail?
- Tight fitting shoes
- Shoes that allow pressure on the nail, causing it to grow abnormally
- Poor nail cutting etc.
- Excessive sweating
- Foot injuries
